- Morning: George’s mother Louise called from Liverpool at 12:10am (exact birth time) to sing “Happy Birthday”; he laughed, mistaking her for a U.S.-style birthday operator at first.

- Evening: Private party in an upstairs room at The Ivy restaurant in London.

- - Brian Epstein gave George a gold cigarette lighter.

This annoyed Brian Epstein, George Martin, and Paul (the song’s writer). Minor tension blew over after an apology.
